Yesterday, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that we shouldn't assume that the Canadiens will make a big move before the trade deadline.
The insider expects the habs to make a move… but not a major trade.
Does that mean Kent Hughes will sit tight in the coming weeks? No. Things can change quickly in the National Hockey League, and we know the Canadiens' GM has more than one trick up his sleeve. We also know he's capable of making moves… without necessarily making a lot of noise.
That said, David Pagnotta said something that really caught my attention (DFO Rundown Podcast), and it goes something like this:
We all know that he (the Canadiens) wants a second-line center. And it's no secret that the team is also looking for a first-line winger. – David Pagnotta
Whoa.
So the Habs could be aggressive after all (and they have the tools to make a move).
Because if things start to move and the market becomes a little less intense, maybe that could lead to some… interesting (?) results for the Canadiens.
Pagnotta goes on to say that there are two players in St. Louis who could really, really interest the Canadiens.
And I think you know very well that I'm referring to Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou. The price is high for both guys, but the Blues are having a disastrous season and there are rumors that St. Louis might want toreset itslineup.
That said, Thomas or Kyrou would definitely be a big coup for the Habs. Both guys have their strengths, and both have what it takes to help the Canadiens achieve great success.
Kyrou, Thomas, Nazem Kadri… these are names we all know in Montreal, and we're likely to be talking about them again between now and March 6, the NHL trade deadline.
And there will surely be other new names popping up in the rumors between now and then.
That's what happens at this time of year, after all. And it's no different in 2026…
