Nazem Kadri's name has been at the center of NHL rumors for quite some time now. The center, who is stuck on a bad team in Calgary, is seen as a logical target for a club looking for help at center.
And we know that Kadri is interested in playing in Montreal. So for several months now, he has been linked to the second center position.
That said, until now, it seemed like this deal wasn't going anywhere. The Flames didn't really seem to want to trade him, and Kadri didn't necessarily seem to want to leave either.
However, tonight, David Pagnotta (TheFourthPeriod) discussed Kadri's situation… and according to his report, Kadri has told the Flames that he is open to a change of address.
He didn't ask for a trade per se, but…
Per multiple sources, Nazem Kadri has informed the #Flames he is open to being traded. In today's piece, I touch on this news, smoke around Blake Coleman, plus:
– #GoJetsGo Stanley in play
– #GoBolts looking to add
– #LeafsForever McMann a target

Remember that last month, Phillip Danault “didn't ask for a trade” either (according to his agent, at least). And a few days later, the Québécois was sent to Montreal in exchange for a second-round pick.
Perhaps Kadri's case is different… but usually, this is the first step toward a trade.
It should be noted that, according to Pagnotta, Kadri is looking for an opportunity to win the Stanley Cup. Montreal is not the best vehicle for that dream this season, but we also know that Kadri still has three years left on his contract (at $7 million per year) after this season.
At 35, he's no longer in his prime, and his offensive production has dropped this season with 35 points in 52 games. So he's not without risk, but we know he's capable of stepping up his game in the playoffs.
We'll see how it all plays out, but if the Flames are willing to save money (and there seems to be an opening on the part of the club, according to Pagnotta), Kadri could quickly become an attractive option on the market. It may not be the cautious option the Habs are looking for… but we know the club has its sights set on him.
Overtime
– Mathieu Darche looks back on his last two trades.
#isles GM Mathieu Darche called it buying “without going crazy,” but it's actually better.
The Islanders got paid to add Carson Soucy and Ondrej Palat – and Darche explained on Frankly Hockey today why they make NYI better.
