Jeff Gorton: Marco Marciano was in demand across the league

Jeff Gorton spoke to the media at noon today. Obviously, Eric Raymond was at the center of the discussion.

In his view, Raymond did some great things, but a change was needed. And the fact that Marco Marciano has ties to the current goalies helped his case.

But another reason for the change was that Raymond would likely not have returned next year. Making the change now to test Marciano made sense.

It should also be mentioned that Gorton said Marciano was in demand across the league. The Canadiens didn't want to hold him back too much, of course, but the club liked him.

So a decision was made.

If Marciano was in demand and the Habs chose to bring him to the NHL, it means that the Canadiens' management was really comfortable with the idea of keeping him.

That doesn't surprise me.

Gorton has given his goalies a vote of confidence (no surprise there) and believes they have what it takes to succeed going forward.

He says he's comfortable with the current situation.

Overtime

– Note.

– Interesting.

– What do you think?

– It was better done than with Stéphane Waite, indeed.

– Wow.
