Many expect the Canadiens to be active before the trade deadline.
As I mentioned in this article, the St. Louis Blues are among the potential partners to seek reinforcements in Montreal.
Two names that come up often in trade rumors are forwards Jordan Kyrou and Robert Thomas, who are 27 and 26 years old, respectively.
The two players have similar profiles and are both having seasons with production below their usual performance levels.
However, it has been a difficult season overall for St. Louis, with most of the team underperforming this year.
Kyrou, a right winger, has 24 points, including 11 goals, in 42 games this season, along with a differential of -7.
However, the Toronto native has scored between 67 and 75 points in each of the last four seasons.
Thomas is doing slightly better with 33 points, including 11 goals, in 42 games and a differential of -3.
However, the center had just had seasons of 81 points (in 70 games) last year and 86 points (in 82 games) two years ago.
In addition, both forwards are in exactly the same contractual situation, in the third year of a deal that pays them an average of $8.125 million per year, and it's reasonable to think that a change of scenery could help both players regain their offensive production.
Both players would fit in very well in the habs' top six.
However, according to David Pagnottam, who was a guest on the Sekeres and Price podcast, even if the Blues are interested in trading one of the two, the asking price would be particularly high.
He does not specify St. Louis' demands, but we can imagine a first-round pick, a quality prospect, and possibly another pick or prospect, maybe even both.
One wonders if this price might not discourage Kent Hughes if the Blues are too greedy.
The Habs need reinforcements on offense, but I don't think the organization will want to pay a high price for a forward who won't immediately make the team a contender for major honors.
