Samuel Montembeault's numbers haven't been great so far this season.

His 9-8-2 record is “respectable,” but his .869 efficiency rate (yay!) and 3.46 goals-against average… not ideal.

But Monty doesn't look at his stats. He prefers to concentrate on his game instead of looking at the numbers, as he mentioned after today's practice. It's a good thing he doesn't look at his stats… because he'd probably have nightmares.

The Québécois' performance is a cause for concern.

The Habs relied on him at the start of the season… and now it's hard to say out loud that the Habs have every reason to trust him right now.

Boring, but there you go.

This morning, the guys at BPM Sports talked about Monty's situation. And Anthony Marcotte said something that got me thinking.

It goes something like this:

What I'm about to say may be strong, but I have a feeling that Samuel Montembeault will never be able to win back the public's support.

People have given up on him. – Anthony Marcotte

It's still big. But I'm inclined to think he's right, Anthony Marcotte.

Samuel Montembeault is in a hole right now and it will be up to him to climb his way out.

But there's a simple solution: he needs to start playing like he did last season. He's got to get back on track to help the Canadiens win games and be successful on a regular basis.

When he does, the critics will be less harsh on him. But it's got to happen, that said… and there's nothing done about it.

It won't be easy, at least.

Overtime

– Note to self:

– It goes without saying.

– Well done.

– I'm going with Cale Makar.
