The Pittsburgh Pirates decided to be more aggressive on the market this winter.
They made a $120 million offer to Kyle Schwarber (which would never have been accepted, but the effort was worth it anyway) and brought guys like Ryan O'Hearn, Brandon Lowe, Gregory Soto, and Jhostynxon Garvia to town.
Were they forced to spend a little to avoid a grievance? Perhaps, yes.
But either way, it makes following their off-season entertaining. And it's nice to see that one of the best players in the world, Paul Skenes, is well surrounded.

Are the Pirates done yet? Possibly not.
According to ESPN, which polled its experts to see how Major League Baseball's off-season would continue under the theme of daring predictions, it wouldn't be impossible to see two additions being made.
I don't see the two additions being made, and we're talking about two different guys who did daring things. But when informants talk, they don't come out with anything that's completely left field, knowing nothing.
Jesse Rogers sees the Phillies holding back $15M of the $20M Nick Castellanos is set to get to send him to Pittsburgh (possibly at first base, in part)… and Tristan Cockcroft sees Eugenio Suarez signing in Pennsylvania.

If either guy (especially Suarez) were to come to town, it would change the dynamic. It would also improve the forward, which was a big problem in town in 2025.
Let's note, while we're on the subject of the Pirates, that Andrew McCutchen doesn't exactly look like a guy who's going to sign in Pittsburgh. He seems angry with the way the Pirates have treated him so far as a free agent.
Not a desired outcome here, friction between Andrew McCutchen and the Pirates after what Ben Cherington said Saturday at PiratesFest. https://t.co/L9LPXKleqJ
