The Habs aren't doing well these days (hats off to the goalies), but when we compare ourselves to other teams, we take comfort.
The Rangers announced to their fans that they were retooling. Artemi Panarin seems destined to finish the season elsewhere, and Alexis Lafrenière doesn't seem to be untouchable.
For the Seattle Kraken, success never came. Unlike the Golden Knights, who enjoyed success in their first season, we're going in circles. So much so that even Shane Wright, selected 4th overall in 2022, could be traded.
Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman wonders if a trade between the two teams would be possible between Shane Wright and Alexis Lafrenière. He came to this idea after a few discussions. He talked about it in his podcast 32 Thoughts.
Elliotte Friedman: I was talking to some people…they heard us talking about Alexis Lafreniere…and could you see them doing something like…Shane Wright for Lafreniere; I don't know how both teams would feel; that's not the worst idea I've ever heard – 32 Thoughts (1/23)

It's not a crazy idea.
Both players need a change of scenery. Lafrenière has just ten goals and 28 points in 52 games, well below expectations for him in New York. He currently plays only 14 minutes per game, with limited time on special units.
In Seattle, his role would be much more important and he could regain his offensive touch.
For his part, Shane Wright hasn't had the offensive blossoming the Kraken had hoped for. He's making progress, that's for sure, but for a fourth overall pick, you'd expect more. He has 18 points in 51 games. With the path the Rangers have chosen, he could be a good bet, especially since he's a center forward.
Now, as for the transaction, I don't think it would be one-for-one. I think Seattle would have to add another player or a pick because of Lafrenière's better track record.
