Pierre Gervais is a name that's been the talk of the town since his retirement.

We know that the release of his books—especially the first one—stirred up a lot of business. Many people didn't like the fact that he revealed locker room secrets in retirement.

The man himself, who recently appeared on the Prends Un Break podcast, doesn't think he's crossed the line. In fact, throughout his career, he has taken precautions to remain professional.

I highly recommend that you listen to the podcast, as the hosts went to great lengths to get a good overview of Pierre Gervais' career and his years in Montreal.

The questions were good—and so were the answers.

What struck me in particular was that, in giving his opinion on P.K. Subban (whom he always found too flamboyant for anything), the club's former equipment manager made connections with Patrik Laine.

In his eyes, Laine (with whom he didn't work in Montreal) doesn't fit in with the hockey conservatism that exists in the National League locker room.

“I've known a lot of players who dressed well. Look at Patrik Laine: he's a kind of white P.K. (Subban). He wears flamboyant clothes, and I don't think that's a good idea.

Hockey is a very conservative sport.” – Pierre Gervais

Even if series like Heated Rivalry aim to change hockey's mentality and make the dress code more flexible, it won't be long before the sport becomes as open as other major North American sports.

The words of Pierre Gervais, who hasn't been retired very long, are proof of that. There will always be people in the locker room who will protect conservatism.

Speaking of Laine, the latest rumors about him are that the Finn has probably played his last game in town.

But it's not because of his clothes that the rumors exist…

– Back to Toronto.

– Really?

– Senators interested in Quebec? Really?
