Marc Bergevin is a household name in Montreal.

That's what happens when someone is the Canadiens' general manager for several years. Bergevin has been in the news for his good times and his bad… but also for the way things ended for him in Montreal.

Pierre Gervais, on the Prends un break podcast, spoke briefly about this.

Basically, Gervais reminded us that Marc Bergevin is a good person… but that the man himself was not the same in his last few years with the team. Gervais mentioned that Bergevin had changed, that he no longer had the same attitude with the rest of the group, and that this had a negative impact on the organization.

And the former Habs equipment manager mentions that “everyone” noticed:

Everyone has experienced it. Is it stress? Did it go to his head? I don't know.

He's changed. He's become a lot less fun. – Pierre Gervais

Gervais also says that Bergevin may have shot himself in the foot a little by deciding not to surround himself with the right people.

He draws a parallel with Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes, who have several quality people with them to help with the decisions made by the organization. Gervais mentions that the former GM of the Habs liked to run a “one-man show” and that this didn't help him in the end.

Pierre Gervais reminds us that he “adores” Marc Bergevin and that he enjoyed working with him for many years in Montreal.

But… this isn't the first time he's talked about Bergevin in this way either. It's not the first time the former GM of the Habs has been criticized by the former equipment manager of the Canadiens, and I wonder how he sees it.

It does give us some insight into what happened at the end of Bergevin's reign in Montreal, at least. And maybe that explains why Bergevin's comments aren't always glorious when we hear about him since he left the organization…
