The Canadiens missed out.
The Canadiens should have gotten Trevor Zegras last summer, when he cost absolutely nothing.
The Flyers picked him up in Anaheim for Ryan Poehling, a second-round pick in 2025 and another fourth-round pick in 2026. We agree that's not much. It was a gamble for Daniel Brière and came with a certain amount of risk, but…
But the Flyers GM won the bet because Zegras is having the best season of his career. With 19 goals and 27 assists (46 points) in just 49 games so far this campaign, he's really blossoming into one of the NHL's top offensive players.
He's one of the league's great stories this season. And it's a shame it's not happening in Montreal.

Trevor Zegras would have been perfect for the Canadiens.
He'd probably be playing on the first line right now with Nick Suzuki and his good friend, Cole Caufield. Zegras loves the snow, he's got the personality to play in a Montreal market, the Habs wouldn't have had to give the moon to get a top-6 forward…
And Zegras has balls, too. Need I remind you of his celebration in his first game against the Ducks a few weeks ago?
Trevor Zegras says his celebration was a reenactment of how fast Anaheim hung up after telling him he was traded

It's rare that you can say this, but… Kent Hughes missed this one.
It's a move that could have been made relatively easily under the circumstances. The Habs had everything they needed to dance with the Ducks, and Zegras, at $5.75 million for the last year of his contract, wouldn't have hurt the Canadiens' books either.
But hey. It's the Flyers who can be happy… because Daniel Brière's gamble really worked.
We knew it wasn't a question of talent when it came to Zegras. And we now understand that he really, really needed a change of scenery to get his mojo back.

The best interview with Alexandre Texier so far is by the car dealership Location Paramount. Go figure.

#Flames expect Jonathan Huberdeau, who missed last night's game with a lower body injury, to play vs. #Allcaps on Friday.
