Six games were played last night in the NHL.
The Canadiens weren't playing, but still.
Let's see what happened:

1: An off-season for the Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche have dominated the NHL since the start of the season. Nathan MacKinnon is on fire, and it shows in the team's performance.
But… yesterday, MacKinnon had a rare bad game. He was wiped off the score sheet against the Ducks, something that hasn't happened often since the start of the season.
Good thing Scott Wedgewood was there for Colorado… :

The shootout was necessary… and it was Cutter Gauthier who put an end to the debate to give his club a 2-1 victory.
He's having a great season. And the Ducks were able to take advantage of it last night:

This is the fifth defeat in eight games for the Avalanche.
The club is in a slump… and I can't wait to see how it responds to all this. But I'm inclined to think it's just a bad patch…
2: Another mark for Sidney Crosby
The Penguins were in Calgary to take on the Flames.
And right from the start, it was Evgeni Malkin who caught the eye by opening the scoring:

It was the old-timers who contributed to the Pens' 4-1 victory over the Flames.
Malkin collected two points (a goal and an assist)… while Sidney Crosby registered an assist on his team's third goal of the game.
This moved him past Mario Lemieux into 8th place in NHL history for most points scored away from home. Way to go, Sid!
He never gets old…

3: A crazy end to the game in Utah
We're transported to the end of the game between the Mammoth and the Flyers.
With 35 seconds left to play, the Flyers are about to walk out of there with the W… but no.
Clayton Keller stepped up and sent everyone into overtime with a beautiful goal:

Did you think the Mammoth captain had finished his magic tricks for the evening?
The answer is no.
Keller, again, scored the game-winning goal in the overtime period. His 15th of the season gave his club a 5-4 win… and hats off to Christian Dvorak, who finished his night's work with three points.

4: Big win for the Wings
The Red Wings are surprising.
They haven't had many bad moments since the start of the season, and that means they've settled in among the top clubs in the East.
And yesterday, they had an important game to play in Toronto. The Leafs opened the scoring in the first period… but Simon Edvinsson struck back:

In general, the match was a bit… flat.
There were scoring chances for both clubs, but capitalizing on said scoring chances was difficult for both teams. Overtime was necessary, and it was the Wings captain who played the hero.

5: A goalie's goal in the OHL
Sick!
Last night, we were treated to an OHL goal. It was Carter George, who plays for the Sault-Sainte-Marie Greyhounds and wore Canada's colors at the last World Junior Championship, who accomplished the feat.
It was his second career goal!
Carter George scored the second goal of his OHL career on Wednesday night, becoming the first goalie in league history to score twice during his time in the OHL!

It's always really special.
Seeing a goal from a goalie is still pretty rare… and it always makes for some truly unique moments.
Carter George will remember it for a long time… that's for sure!
Overtime
