Yesterday, in the NHL, two players (among many others) were injured. We're talking about Darcy Kuemper and Anthony Cirelli.
Why are we talking about them in particular? Because a few weeks ago, these guys were officially nominated by Hockey Canada to go to the Olympics.
So, by necessity, they're getting a lot of attention.
The good news is that both guys shouldn't miss the Games, according to Pierre LeBrun. Cirelli is expected to play in the Tampa Bay Lightning's next game.
And Kuemper is day-to-day in Los Angeles. Further tests will be carried out in relation to his state of health.
On Team Canada's Anthony Cirelli (TB) and Darcy Kuemper (LAK), both of whom left their respective games last night, neither situation is expected to affect their Olympic standing. Cirelli should play next game.

But of necessity, there's a world in which Canada needs another #3 goalie to back up Jordan Binnington and Logan Thompson.
And here, we wonder whether Samuel Montembeault might not be an option
The possibility was raised by TVA Sports and BPM Sports, among others. But on the radio, Alain Crête said he didn't think the goalie's recent success should make the difference.
The Colorado goalies (Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, two Ontarians) would come first, in his opinion. They've been good all year, in fact.
Of course, with Samuel Montembeault's ugly start to the season, he was out of the Olympic running. And most likely, his recent successes won't tip the needle in his favor should Canada ever make a move.
But it's fair to say that in a “what have you done for me lately” league, and given the fact that he was there at the Four Nations, it's only natural that his name should be the talk of the town.

However, I'm also of the opinion that it would be really surprising if the Québécois were to be one of the options if we ever had to replace one of the three goalies.
Not seeing him at the Olympics wouldn't be as surprising as seeing the Americans (again) ignore Lane Hutson. Actually, no: it's not a surprise, it's more like nonsense.
