It's now official: Cody Bellinger will stay with the Yankees. The outfielder, who had been free as a bird for a few months, has finally signed a five-year contract to return to the Bronx.
The Yankees, who didn't have a great offseason, have at least ensured themselves of seeing a big piece of the 2025 roster again.
And sure enough, when you look at it all, the Yankees' outfield is going to cost them. Aaron Judge already earns $40M, but the club will give $32.5M to Bellinger, $25M to Giancarlo Stanton (can he still be considered an outfielder?) and $22M to Trent Grisham in 2026.
Yes, that's big money.

When you look at this, then, you realize that there's congestion in the outfield in the Bronx. And all of this is interesting from the perspective that the club has two youngsters growing up in Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones.
So it's getting harder and harder to see a world in which they can easily be found playing time… and as the scenario was hinted at in Foul Territory, both youngsters suddenly become tradeable.
And with the Yankees looking for starting pitchers, it's easy to see these two guys as bargaining chips to go out and get one.
What does Cody Bellinger re-signing with the Yankees mean for Jasson Domínguez and Spencer Jones?
“Trade one of them in a deal for Freddy Peralta,” says @ScottBraun.

We know that right now, Freddy Peralta's name is circulating abundantly. The Yankees, who have a habit of going after the Brewers' bullpen, could easily pick up the phone and see if one of the two youngsters could bring Peralta to the Bronx.
And if it's not Peralta, it could very well be another starter, even if it means waiting until the deadline.
It's worth remembering, however, that Grisham will be a free agent at the end of next season, and one wonders if Judge will eventually have to leave the outfield as he ages. With this in mind, the club will have to be careful with its young prospects.
But the priority in the Bronx right now must be to assemble the best possible lineup to help Judge, Stanton, and Gerrit Cole win the World Series. And Bellinger's return clearly provides flexibility in that direction.
