For a young Québécois hockey player, there are dreams that can't really be explained. They've been there since childhood. Being drafted into the NHL is already huge. To be drafted by the Canadiens is something else entirely.
Maddox Dagenais is no exception.
As his draft year approaches, the young Québécois forward is attracting more and more attention. Not just for what he does on the ice, but for what he represents. A homegrown guy, raised in the hockey culture of Quebec, who openly assumes what many people think. He is one of the QMJHL's top prospects for the upcoming draft.
In an interview with TVA Sports, Dagenais made no secret of his affection for the Montreal club:
“For sure, the Canadiens have a place in my heart, my father played here, but my goal is just to be drafted… No matter the team, I'm going to be happy.” – Maddox Dagenais
He imagines himself in the colors of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge

The mention of his father is not trivial. Pierre Dagenais wore a Canadiens uniform in the early 2000s, and while Maddox is now charting his own course, the legacy is there. Not as a burden, but as a constant reminder of what Montreal means to a local player.
Growing up knowing that your father once wore that jersey leaves its mark.
But beyond the Dagenais case, this story illustrates a well-known reality: the majority of young Québécois dream, at one time or another, of being drafted by the Habs.
Obviously, the draft doesn't work on emotion. It's rankings, needs, and timing that decide. Maddox Dagenais knows this very well. His speech is calm, mature, and without illusions.
But dreaming doesn't mean you can't be realistic.
Maddox Dagenais' name may still be available if the Canadiens draft between 22 and 32. The Quebec Remparts forward plays center and has an imposing physique, which could be of interest to the Canadiens. What's more, he's got a good offensive edge, with 33 points in 40 games this season.
So, if his name is called by the Canadiens, it won't just be an emotional selection, but because the Canadiens need this player in their future.
