The trading market saw its first notable move with the trade of Rasmus Andersson to the Golden Knights, a clear reminder that some teams are already starting to adjust their line-ups in preparation for the rest of the season.
Against this backdrop, certain issues are resurfacing, sometimes more discreetly, but just as revealing. Jordan Kyrou is one of them.
In St. Louis, the season is not going as hoped, either collectively or individually for certain key players. And when the production isn't up to scratch, the rumors are quick to follow.
This is precisely what David Pagnotta raised on Inside Sports on January 14.
“Jordan Kyrou is a player for whom several teams have shown interest, including Anaheim. We'll see where it goes and if the Sharks decide to go in that direction.” – David Pagnotta
A statement that confirms nothing, but is enough to put Kyrou back on the radar of several general managers.
The Blues are having a disappointing season. And when a team isn't progressing as expected, even established players like Kyrou inevitably find themselves in the discussion, not because they're the problem, but because they're part of the assets that can make things happen.
It's hard not to make the connection with Doug Armstrong's comments when he openly admitted that the Blues couldn't beat the Avalanche in the first, so there's no point in making the playoffs.
So it wouldn't be surprising to see Armstrong deal Kyrou between now and the trade deadline, but not at any price.
For a team like the Anaheim Ducks, currently fighting for a playoff spot, Kyrou represents an offensive reinforcement capable of helping immediately. His acquisition could help replace the loss of Leo Carlsson to a thigh injury. His return is scheduled for February 25.
As for the Sharks, although the team is still young, it is currently on track for the playoffs thanks to young star Macklin Celebrini. Acquiring this player from the Blues could provide Celebrini with a helping hand for many years to come.
After the move involving Andersson, the Kyrou file is clearly one to watch as many teams begin to define their priorities for the rest of the season.

If Toronto continues to rise up the standings and he continues to be a driving force, he should be considered for the Hart Trophy.
