If a GM wants to acquire Elias Pettersson, it's going to be expensive, especially if Vancouver withholds a considerable portion of his salary.
The Canucks are currently in a seller's position, ranking last in the entire NHL. They traded Quinn Hughes a few weeks ago, and there's more to come.
Elias Pettersson, who will attract the attention of several teams, will be expensive, especially if Vancouver withholds 25% of his salary. In a piece by Marco D'Amico on Ratings, we learn that the Flyers and the Mammoth are two teams to keep an eye on. The NHL Trade Rumor site has made two mock trades for each team:
In Vancouver, from the Mammoth: Daniil But, Caleb Desnoyers, and a first-round pick in 2026.
In Vancouver, from the Flyers: Porter Martone, Jett Luchanko, and a first-round pick in 2026.
Could NHL Trade Deadline see more players with term moved than usual?

If the Habs were interested, I think the Canucks would ask for something like David Reinbacher, Alexander Zharovsky and a first-round pick this season. I don't think Kent Hughes would go there, though.
As mentioned in D'Amico's article, an $11.6 million Elias Pettersson isn't going to interest many people. This is the main reason why Patrik Allvin will probably have to withhold some salary to facilitate a transaction.
At 25% of his salary ($8.7 million annually), a team could secure a center with immense potential at a salary that makes a lot of sense. This season, the Swede has 29 points in 40 games, but he's playing for a dysfunctional club.
Pettersson's problem has always been his competitiveness and desire. If a team can unlock both facets of his game, he could once again become the Pettersson who made 102 points in 2022-2023.
In addition to the big forward, Filip Hronek and Kiefer Sherwood could also attract interest from a few teams across the NHL, according to Elliotte Friedman and David Pagnotta.
Elliotte Friedman: Filip Hronek has a no-move clause, he has control over it; if he was available, I could see a team like Ottawa doing something, I could see a whole bunch of teams calling – 32 Thoughts (1/16)

Hronek's agent Allan Walsh was quick to say, however, that his client isn't interested in leaving.
He made a similar exit for Phillip Danault and his client was traded a few hours later….
This is just wasted air. Great players are in demand everywhere. But the NHL is not fantasy hockey. Why bring up players that are not available for trade? Vancouver management and coaches are happy with Fil and Fil has no interest in going anywhere else. https://t.co/DFaV3RFmup
