Jake Evans, Patrik Laine, and Kirby Dach are on the sidelines at the moment.
All three guys practiced today with the rest of the team and were wearing regular jerseys, which is a good sign.
But when can we expect to see them back in action? Renaud Lavoie offered some clues in his column on BPM Sports' Comeback Show.
Basically, the journalist mentioned the following: Dach is the one most likely to return to action in the next few days. Evans is also progressing well… but it could be a little longer for Laine.
Of course, the one who's closest to a comeback is Kirby Dach. – Renaud Lavoie
Could Dach play tomorrow in Ottawa? It's possible, with Jacob Fowler and Owen Beck being sent back to the AHL…
Still, it's interesting.
Renaud Lavoie mentioned that Dach would probably play today if the Canadiens were in the playoffs – Kent Hughes referred to the same thing during his review last week – and it shows in a way that the player is almost 100% ready.
But it also shows that the organization stuck to its plan: the Habs wanted to be patient with Dach, and that's what happened. There was no point in rushing his return to action because we know he has a long injury history.
And anyway, the Habs had the luxury of being able to take their time with #77 because the results have been there lately. The guys in place did their job the right way, and that allowed the Canadiens to get a leg up on Dach in a sense.
We'll have to keep an eye on that. We don't know if Dach will play tomorrow… but based on Renaud Lavoie's comments, we understand that there's a real chance of seeing Kirby make his comeback.
It would be his first game since November 15…
