We shouldn't be surprised to see Kyle Tucker in Los Angeles, should we?

After all, when the best club in MLB (and perhaps history) offers you $60 million a year for four years, with exit options after years #2 and #3, you say yes.

Seeing him in Los Angeles, with a club that goes after stars on a regular basis, has always been a likely scenario.

He will be entitled to a $64 million signing bonus, including $54 million now. Thirty million of the $240 million will be deferred ($10 million per year from 2027 to 2029), bringing the value of the contract to an average of $57.1 million per year.

In short, it's quite a deal.

We don't know exactly what the Blue Jays were offering the outfielder, but we do know it was long-term. The total value of the contract must therefore have been high, but on a per-year basis, it was less than the Dodgers' offer.

And it was also less than the Mets' offer.

In fact, according to Jim Duquette, the Mets offered Tucker $220 million over four years. We don't know if there was deferred money in his offer (probably not), but that works out to $55M per year.

Last I heard, the offer was $50 million per year. This means that Steve Cohen had increased the value of his offer (beyond Juan Soto's on an annual basis), but it didn't work out.

It wasn't far from the Dodgers' offer… but the Mets had to offer more, not less, to hope for a chance.

  • That's a crazy amount.

  • What would it have been like if Kyle Tucker had been healthy in 2025?

  • Edwin Diaz and Kyle Tucker: cost the Dodgers a lot of money in picks since both guys turned down qualifying offers.

  • Unbelievable.

  • That's a good one.
