It was game night for several university hockey teams.

One game pitted two habs prospects against each other, as Michael Hage and the University of Michigan visited LJ Mooney and the University of Minnesota.

Hage, fresh off an excellent tournament with Canada at the World Junior Championships, continued his good work with the Wolverines, scoring a fine goal to give his team a 2-1 lead in the second period.

It was already his twelfth goal, his 31st point, in 23 games for the center, who should beat his personal mark of 13 goals and 34 points in 33 games during his rookie season.

Hage also picked up an assist on his team's fifth goal late in the third period.

Everything seems to be smiling on Hage since the beginning of the year, as he's having a very good season, both at university and international level. The 19-year-old prospect could be ready to help the Habs sooner than many thought, and could join the club as early as this season.

LJ Mooney was more discreet, but he did get an assist on Ludtke Tanner's first goal.

Even if he doesn't dominate like Hage, Mooney is having a respectable first season with Minnesota with 15 points, including 4 goals, in 21 games. The diminutive forward would probably like to fill the net a little more often, but he's still contributing to his team's attack.

Still, these are interesting numbers for a fourth-round pick, 111th overall, who doesn't really represent a risk for the Habs.

The University of Michigan won the game 5-1.

Overtime

– A problem we need to fix.

– Shootout defeat.

– He could waive his clause.

– A rinse…

– Nice goal.
