When Marc Bergevin took over as GM of the Canadiens, he lived in Montreal. A GM can't really live in a city other than his club's, in reality.
But since he's no longer GM, he has fewer restrictions in that respect.
He also has fewer restrictions in terms of having to answer questions about himself from the Montreal media… but that's another story.
All this to say that he doesn't have to live in the city where his organization is located.
Pierre LeBrun (yes, he managed to talk to the former Habs star) reported that last summer, Bergevin moved to Dallas. He put in a good word for us this morning.
New for @TheAthletic, spoke with Gerard Gallant who is back home from Russia and doing much better. Plus notes on Phillipp Grubauer, Dougie Hamilton, Alexandre Texier, Marc Bergevin, Rick Bowness in latest Rumblings

Being in the West will allow him to cover a different territory than his boss Jarmo Kekalainen, who is of course based in Buffalo.
So that means he moved to Texas when he was still a Kings consultant (wonder if that was before or after he didn't get the Kings GM job) and is staying there now that he's the #1 assistant for the Sabres.
Why Dallas? That's a good question. Maybe he's joining someone there, or maybe he just likes the area. But he's never played for the Stars, anyway.
But in any case, the use of technology allows Bergevin to live wherever he wants, both when he was with the Kings and now that he's with the Sabres.
That said, we suspect that one day, he'd be ready to move again, considering he'd like to be a GM in the NHL again . And unless he becomes the Stars' boss, he'll have to move.
Will a team ever sign him?
Marc Bergevin has joined a friend in Buffalo, but he's not closing the door at all on the possibility of becoming GM of an NHL team. @PierreVLeBrun sums up his discussion with the former Canadiens executive to @AlexTourignyRDS during his hockey informateur segment on… pic.twitter.com/eY6vYTeKBj
