Jacob Fowler played a total of 15 games this season in the American League.

And do you know what?

He's been so good that he's been selected to play in the AHL All-Star Game. He's one of the Rocket's chosen few, along with Laurent Dauphin, Adam Engström, and head coach Pascal Vincent.

It's interesting for everyone in the group… but especially for Fowler.

After all, we know it's been over a month since he's played downstairs. He's been playing for the Canadiens for several weeks now… but it's worth remembering that he was dominant before being called up by the Canadiens too.

His numbers speak for themselves:

  • 10-5-0 record
  • 2.09 goals-against average
  • .919 efficiency rate

These are star stats. And the AHL is obviously aware of this…

Let's note, in all this, that Fowler won't be able to go to the AHL All-Star Game if he's still in the NHL. Could it “help” the Habs to send him to Laval in a way, if you combine that with the factthat it would be ideal to see Fowler play AHL games during the Olympic break?

While we're on the subject of Fowler and the AHL…

There's a lot of speculation about the Canadiens' goaltending plan for the rest of the season. We know that the ménage à trois isn't likely to last, and that the situation is a little complicated at the moment because Samuel Montembeault, Jakub Dobes, and Fowler bring different elements to the Montreal net.

And all three are having a good time too.

But according to Pierre LeBrun(Sick Podcast), the easy solution is to send Fowler back down and let him play more.

He needs to get as many starts as possible in order to develop the right way:

The same goes for Michel Villeneuve.

On the Martin Lemay show, Villeneuve said it out loud: he wants to see Fowler get a really high workload in Laval. In Villeneuve's eyes, that's how he can improve even more:

Everyone has a different opinion on the subject.

But it's true that sending Fowler back down to let him dominate… it's not a completely crazy idea either. We know that a goaltender's development can take longer, and we know that a goaltender must have the opportunity to play as many games as possible to progress in front of the net.

In Montreal, with three goalies, it's harder for Fowler to get that chance.

We agree: Fowler— who will be playing tonight —doesn't necessarily deserve to be sent back to the minors because he has done some great things since being recalled to the NHL.

But even so, if it's the ultimate solution to seeing him improve… the Habs have to think about it.

Overtime

– Reminder: 10 games tonight in the NHL.

– Logical.

– Lane Hutson's brother was also voted an LAH All-Star.

– Congratulations to Jakob Pelletier!
