Patrik Laine arrived last year as the savior of the powerplay, scoring 15 of his 20 goals (in 52 games) with the man advantage.

Without a doubt, he's got what it takes to be a threat with the puck, but we all know he drags his feet too much and that makes him a real nuisance.

He's had chances to make his mark, but other than on the powerplay, he's pretty much always invisible and too often a liability to the club.

Patrik Laine should be back in the next few weeks, if all goes well.

When he does, it will officially be his last chance to prove he can make a big impact with the team, but not just on the power play.

On BPM Sports' Georges Laraque and Stéphane Gonzalez show today, however, the latter mentioned that he thinks it's unfortunately over for Laine.

I share Gonzo's opinion on this. He's already had his chance in Montreal.

As Gonzo pointed out, this won't be a second chance for Laine, but a fourth…

Not only does he have a hard time staying healthy, but five-on-five he's a complete liability. He drags his linemates down so much he's a nuisance (except on the powerplay).

On the other hand, it should be added that without Laine and his incredible power play production , the Habs probably wouldn't have made the playoffs in 2025. Patrik Laine should be back in the next few weeks, if all goes well.

What's more, we know that the Habs' powerplay is working pretty hard these days, and Laine could certainly help. On the other hand, there's obviously no room in the first wave for him. He'd still be a big help in the second wave.

His strengths must be recognized, but the Finn simply has to give more of himself on the ice, every time he appears.

If he works hard enough, he can certainly be a real impact player for the Habs.
