The Canadiens lost last night's game to the Washington Capitals.

Darn!

There were also nine other games presented around the league. Let's see what happened:

1: 11th straight win for the Lightning

It's been quite a run for the Lightning.

Last night, it was trying to record its eleventh straight victory… but it was more complicated than expected.

The Florida club opened the scoring against the Penguins with a goal from JJ Moser:

At the end of the game, the Bolts were still ahead 1-0… but good old Evgeni Malkin stepped up to tie the game.

He never gets old:

The shootout was necessary to determine a winner between the two clubs, and it was Nikita Kucherov who played the hero for the Lightning.

He scored a beautiful goal to end the debate:

11 straight wins for the Lightning is… something.

Jon Cooper's men have been on fire lately. And the timing is right, because the playoff race in the East is so, so tight…

2: Tristan Jarry… how are you?

We're transported to the end of the game between the Predators and the Oilers.

The score is 3-2 in favor of the Oilers… but Joman Rosi has tied it up to send everyone into overtime:

During the overtime period, Tristan Jarry looked a little… crazy.

The Oilers' goalie came out of his net rather haphazardly, and that allowed Josi to score his second of the game. Preds win 4-3:

In his team's defeat, Connor McDavid collected two assists. This gave him a point in his twentieth consecutive game.

When the Oilers' captain decides to get going… he's hard to stop.

3: A beautiful moment in Columbus

Before last night's game between the Blue Jackets and Flames, Meredith Gaudreau was invited to sound the cannon in Columbus.

It was a beautiful moment… because Johnny, of course, played for both clubs during his NHL career.

The game in question was won by the Jackets (5-3), and in Columbus' victory, Zach Werenski's performance was particularly noteworthy.

The American defenseman finished the game with a fine three-point performance: that's 16 points in his last 10 games, and you can tell he's in top form right now.

Good for his club… because Werenski is clearly one of the best players on the circuit when he's healthy.

And he's beautiful to watch:

4: Dylan Guenther takes care of the Leafs

Dylan Guenther… he's quite the hockey player. And he showed it last night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He scored two second-period goals to help his club win 6-1. And let's just say that his two goals stand out because of the quality of his shot:

6-1… it's really a massacre.

Yet the Leafs had just beaten the Avalanche in regulation. The club could have built on that game, but it obviously got replaced last night in Utah.

But that's the Leafs' biggest problem so far this season: consistency.

It's hard to be successful on a regular basis if your level of effort isn't the same every night…

5: Another goal for Beckett Sennecke

The race for the Calder Trophy is really interesting this season.

Ivan Demidov, Matthew Schaefer, Beckett Sennecke, Jesper Wallstedt… these guys have been putting on quite a show since the start of the season.

And last night, it was Sennecke who caught the eye as he scored his 15th goal of the season in the Ducks' 3-1 win over the Dallas Stars:

At this point, it would be difficult (in my humble opinion) to unanimously award the trophy to one of the NHL's rookies.

Schaefer would get my vote, I think… but Demidov has been playing some great hockey lately and Sennecke is having a great season too.

It's going to come down to the finish line, I have a feeling…
