Alexandre Texier is in town to stay.

As you may have seen, the Frenchman has signed a two-year contract extension with the Habs. He will earn an average of $2.5 million per year from 2026 to 2028.

So, he won his bet after leaving the Blues.

What you need to know is that negotiations to keep him in town were straightforward with Kent Hughes, the club's GM. Dan Milstein (Texier's agent) and the Habs didn't have to fight to get what they wanted.

The agent agreed to speak to Nicolas Cloutier (TVA Sports) to give details of how the Canadiens and the player's clan came to an agreement.

Basically, the Canadiens approached the player's clan first in the last week. There may have been two or three calls that established the contract amount and that's it.

Since Texier (who believes the Habs have the tools to win the Stanley Cup) wanted to stay and had recently been having a good time, it was easy to say yes to the Canadiens' offer.

Basically, Texier signed in town to relaunch his career and he's found his nest. Staying was therefore important to him, as he felt at home with the organization.

The Habs obviously felt the same way.

We suspected that negotiations might not be as difficult as those for Lane Hutson, for example, but now the Olympian has put pen to paper.

And I can't really see anyone complaining.

A few weeks ago, the Habs (like all NHL clubs) didn't want to go after Texier at $2.1 million a year until July 1, 2026. The Frenchman got $2.5 million from 2026 to 2028.

The forward proved himself and won his bet.
