Earlier today, Alexandre Texier signed a two-year contract extension with the Habs. The Frenchman, who arrived in town less than two months ago, has clearly done enough to convince the Canadiens to keep him beyond the current season.

He's found a way to find himself on the first line, where he's been doing well ever since.

And logically, in many people's eyes, that's a sign that he's in town to stay. Eric Engels, writing for Sportsnet, is among those who have noted that Texier will obviously be in town until the end of this contract.

However, not everyone necessarily agrees. JiC, for example, had another theory about the deal: in his eyes, it helps the Habs put Texier in the shop window for a trade.

A deal that would bring in an established center.

Logically, one wonders how all this would be received. Texier has enjoyed a real renaissance since arriving in Montreal, and to trade him shortly after seeing him commit to the Canadiens for the next few years would send a strange message.

The club has been doing its utmost to restore its reputation in the league over the past few years, and trading Texier wouldn't be a good move, we agree.

That said, it's possible that Texier could be traded the day the youngsters push to take his place. And it's true that, in the short term, the return of the injured will force the club to release players.

And let's just say that while it's legitimate to expect some guys to leave, it would be surprising if Texier were one of them, we agree.

Overtime

– Speaking of the wolf.

– The club is no longer afraid to stir.

– Enjoy.
