It was a very quiet Friday night last night in the National Hockey League, with only six teams in action across three games.

Still, there were a few highlights from the evening's hockey.

Here they are.

1. First win in 12 games for the Winnipeg Jets

After winning the Presidents' Trophy, awarded to the best regular-season team, last season, the Winnipeg Jets find themselves tied for last place in the NHL this season.

Indeed, the Jets are in the bottom half of the standings at mid-season, which is quite surprising considering their incredible 2024-2025 campaign.

Prior to last night's game, the Jets were on an 11-game winless streak, which had brought them much closer to Gavin McKenna.

However, against the Los Angeles Kings last night, the Jets finally won a game, their first at home since December 13.

They won 5-1, even generating a wave among the Jets fans in the Canadian Life Center.

A wave after 11 consecutive losses is still significant, and shows the passion of the fans despite the team's setbacks this season.

2. Alex Ovechkin scores goal in third straight game

As everyone knows, Alex Ovechkin is a man of sequence, and when he's on fire, nothing seems able to stop him.

Well, last night, in a 5-1 Washington Capitals victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, Ovechkin scored a goal in his third consecutive game.

That now makes him 19 goals and 38 points in 45 games this season, which is really excellent for a 40-year-old forward.

Ovi is now just one goal short of his 21st season of 20 or more goals.

3. Nic Dowd's brother chugs a beer while announcing the starting line-up

In the same game in which Ovechkin scored his 916th career goal, the Caps forward's brother, Nic Dowd, introduced the starting line-up in a zany pre-game scene.

His energy was contagious, and he wrapped things up in style with a beer in front of the entire locker room.

A rather comical scene that certainly motivated the Capitals, given that they won 5-1.
