No goals were scored in the first period, but the play was very intense and fast-paced.
The best chance went to Oliver Kapanen.

In the second period, the Wings scored twice.

Later in the period, a powerplay allowed the visitors to double their lead.

At the start of the third period, Alex DeBrincat really hurt the home team.
He was alone in the enclave and didn't ask for much.

The problem in this match: the players never wanted to shoot at the net.
They were always looking for the perfect play.
The Habs need to shoot more. They really do.

Final score: 4-0 Wings, who scored their fourth goal in an empty net.
With the win, Detroit moved to within two points of Montreal in the Atlantic standings. And with the Lightning's victory, the Habs are now third in the division.
On Monday, Martin St-Louis' team returns to action against the Canucks at the Bell Centre.
