When you watch the Canadiens play this season, it's pretty clear that the club has talent to spare. The Habs have a ton of young players brimming with skill, and that translates into goals that are often quite spectacular.

It's been a long, long time since the puck moved like that in Montreal.

That said, it also comes with its share of challenges. This is particularly true on the powerplay (where the Habs are still a league powerhouse, remember): the club often tends to make too many passes instead of going for a simple play.

And this morning, Martin St-Louis admitted as much to the media: he too feels that his club makes too many passes when they have the man advantage.

He wants to see his group simplify things.

St. Louis is generally satisfied with his power play. He finds that, generally speaking, the guys have good intentions on the ice… but he's aware that they sometimes tend to make things difficult for themselves.

Sometimes, the best game is the simplest, you know.

The coach notes, however, that all this is not a huge priority that the club is trying to work on. He sometimes talks about it with his group to give them advice, but it's understandable that the overall success of the power play means that the Habs like to use their time better to work on other facets of the game.

And in fact, it makes sense: it's just as easy to work on your glaring weaknesses as it is to work on an aspect of the game that's going well, especially as practice time is very limited this year due to the condensed schedule.

We'll see if the club eventually adjusts to the fact that it's been a little less effective on the power play in recent games. Still, it's interesting to note that St-Louis, like many fans, has come to the conclusion that his club makes too many passes with the man advantage.
