The Rangers were beaten by the Bruins this afternoon.

Sorry, they weren't beaten, they were planted.

Even the word “planted” doesn't do justice to the 10-2 loss to Boston.

This could be the beginning of the end for New York, as negotiations with their star player Artemi Panarin are not going well.

It's going so badly that the Rangers may ask the Russian to waive his no-trade clause if the season isn't going anywhere. And right now, the playoffs are light years away…

Panarin has 49 points in 45 games and earns $11,642,857 through the end of the season. He also has a no-movement clause that means the player can't be traded without his consent.

But anyway, I have a feeling that if he is traded, it will be to a Stanley Cup contender. I don't think he'd turn down a trade, so…

Would he accept a trade to Montreal? Remember, he knows Jeff Gorton well from his time in the Big Apple. Going after Panarin would make sense for Montreal, especially if he signs a contract extension.

He's one of the best players in the NHL and, as a Russian, he'll help Ivan Demidov. Would Montreal want to make room for him and/or trade several picks and prospects to get him? If Kent Hughes isn't sure he'll extend for a few more seasons, I don't think he'll touch him.

To be continued. We know that Nazem Kadri could also be of interest to the Habs, and the player's interest in the club is mutual.

This will be a buyer's market, and several teams will be competing with the Habs.

For once, we'll have to keep an eye on the Sabres… as buyers.

Overtime

– Rocket defeat.

– He made him lie.

– Rams advance to next round.

– Ah well.
