Darren Dreger: “If Michael Hage is traded, it’s because Sidney Crosby is coming to Montreal.”
Michael Hage is an important prospect in the Canadiens organization.
His performances at the World Junior Championship showed that he has a lot of talent… because he finished the competition with 15 points in just seven games.
That's quite a production for a youngster at an international tournament like this.
That said… there are a number of rumors at the moment that the Canadiens are looking to improve. The names of Blake Coleman and Kiefer Sherwood are particularly popular in Montreal these days.
But in Darren Dreger's eyes, a trade for a quality player wouldn't involve Michael Hage, because the Canadiens hold him in high esteem. And Dreger added this later this morning on TSN 690:
If Michael Hage is traded, it's because Sidney Crosby is coming to Montreal. – Darren Dreger
That's a big one.

Of course, we know that Crosby's situation in Pittsburgh is a bit touch-and-go.
He'll make the final decision (it's up to him)… but we also know that the Canadiens will be at the height of the race if he really becomes available. Because we know that Kent Hughes likes him a lot and we know that #87 would fill every possible slot in Montreal.
On the other hand, hearing this about Michael Hage shows just how much the Canadiens love him.
The Habs know he has the talent to become a good NHL player and, ultimately, we're talking about a guy who seems to have the qualities to one day play in the top-6 in Montreal. He's progressing at a really interesting pace and there's a hole in the middle of the second line at the time of writing.
I don't know how I'd feel about it, though, seeing Hage involved in a deal for a 38-year-old. I know, I know… you have to give to get in the NHL, and it's true that in the short term, Crosby would really help the Canadiens on several levels.
But is it worth sacrificing part of the future to bring him to Montreal? If it's for Crosby, I have a feeling the answer is yes… but I'd be curious to know what you think, too.
