It's hard to say how much longer the Canadiens' ménage à trois will survive in front of the net. The problem is that none of the three goalies currently deserves to be sent to Laval.

The right choice would be to send Jacob Fowler to allow him to play more games and develop better, but his level of play is forcing the Habs' hand.

That's what prompted several Sick Podcast contributors to say they'd see Fowler as the starter in the Canadiens' first playoff game this year.

Maxim Lapierre and Pierre McGuire were the first to say so.

For Lapierre, it's Fowler who should get the start because of his calmness and technique in front of the net. He gives all his teammates confidence, and that's important in the playoffs.

McGuire followed up with a similar line of thought. If the situation remains as it is, it's safe to assume that Fowler will be the Habs' go-to guy for the first game of the playoffs.

Lapierre and McGuire aren't the only two thinking along these lines. Martin Biron has the same idea in mind as the other two men.

Again, the idea is that if the playoffs started tomorrow, Fowler would be the starter. Right now, he's the man you can trust. He's the one who gives you the best chance of winning.

Even though Fowler is only a rookie, he has a lot of experience in big games. He played in the World Junior Championship in 2024, then led Boston College to the Frozen Four final a few months later.

He's the kind of goalie who can be dominant in the playoffs thanks to his exemplary calm.

Several rookie goalkeepers have had success in the playoffs. The best recent story is that of Jordan Binnington, who won the Stanley Cup with the Blues as a rookie.

We're not saying we should expect Fowler to lead the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup right away, but he'd already be capable of delivering strong playoff performances for the team.
