Tonight, the Canadiens take on the Calgary Flames.

So there was a practice this morning (during which we understood that Jacob Fowler would get the start and the rest of the lineup would be unchanged) and press briefings.

What's on my mind?

1. Cole Caufield and Lane Hutson have been the talk of the town lately. These are two players who could aspire to a place in the Olympic squad – and who don't know if they're potential replacements.

And we can see that Bill Guerin didn't treat them the same way. The American GM called Caufield to tell him he hadn't made the roster…

But he didn't call Hutson, who doesn't want to worry about all this, but appreciates the fans' grumbling.

What this tells me is that the defender was less close than the forward to making the club. His lack of experience and the presence of Quinn Hughes made this outcome quite logical.

2. Kaiden Guhle won't be back tonight. On the eve of a back-to-back and with few practices under his belt, it might have been better to wait a bit.

Martin St-Louis wouldn't say when his defenseman would be ready, but he knows it's imminent.

We still don't know what's wrong with Josh Anderson. We still don't know when Kirby Dach(who will only be back when he's 100%) will start skating again, as he seems to be behind on his rehab program.

In fact, apart from Guhle, we've learned nothing about the injured players.

3. We know that Jacob Fowler will get tonight's start, even though it wasn't his turn (it was Jakub Dobes') according to the holiday rotation. We know that Samuel Montembeault is not eligible for waivers, that he's been better since his return, and that he's a veteran.

And we know that Kent Hughes doesn't want the ménage à trois to continue. Right now, things don't look good for Dobes.

4. For the first time since the deal that brought him back to Montreal, Phillip Danault will play at the Bell Centre. It will be his first game (as a Habs player) at the Bell Centre since the Stanley Cup Final.

He had circled the date on his calendar, and he'll have family in the stands. And even if he doesn't know what to expect from the crowd, I'd be surprised if he got a bad reception, let's say.

Cole Caufield was asked about Danault's pizza. Has the Québécois eaten any (in tribute to June 24, 2021) since his return to town?

Caufield's answer? No: it'll come at a more meaningful time.
