Is the Canadiens a perfect team? No.
But are the Canadiens an exciting team that continues to progress and learn more and more about how to win hockey games?
The answer is yes.
More and more, before our very eyes, we see the fast, talented team that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton sold to fans when they took control of the team's hockey operations.
There are encouraging signs, let's face it.
In fact, at today's press conference, Hughes said something interesting. The GM said, in response to a question about how far his club was from being able to compete for the Stanley Cup, that the Habs were probably ahead of schedule.
If someone had told him in 2022 or 2023 that the Habs would look like this in 2026, he wouldn't necessarily have believed it.
#Habs GM Kent Hughes on how far the #GoHabsGo are from being legit contenders: “we're probably ahead of schedule. If you're asking me when we came in in year 1, year 2, did we think the team would be as competitive as it is? Probably not…”

It's interesting, because for a long time now, the manager has been aiming for the summer of 2025 to improve the club. And even though guys like Noah Dobson and Zachary Bolduc arrived, the #1 need at the time (second center) hasn't been filled.
And despite everything, the Habs are better than they thought in their plan. Interesting…
Obviously, the progression of some top players is going well, and the club has a few surprises along the way. I don't think the club expected so muchfrom Oliver Kapanen and Lane Hutson, a 62nd overall pick…
Clearly, the GM was in fine form when he spoke to the media. Still, his club is doing well, and there's a certain wave of optimism in town – and with good reason.
