Like many Major League Baseball clubs, the New York Yankees are enjoying a very quiet off-season. Things seem to be starting to move behind the scenes, however, with negotiations with Cody Bellinger well underway, and deals involving Edward Cabrera surfacing.
But while bringing the star outfielder back into their ranks and adding an arm to the rotation is a priority for the Yankees, something else is obsessing general manager Brian Cashman this winter.
Indeed, according to Jim Bowden, the Yankees have become “obsessed” with the idea of adding another right-handed hitter to their lineup.

Watch for the Yankees on Bo Bichette because opposing GMs tell me the Yankees are pretty obsessed with adding a right-handed hitter to their lineup. They feel they're too left-handed. Bichette makes a lot of sense at second base for them, with Chisholm moved to third, or maybe they'd even trade Chisholm to sign Bichette. I've also heard they've been linked to Nico Hoerner.
If the Bombers replace Chisholm with Hoerner, they'd get the balance they want in the offensive role, but that wouldn't solve everything in New York.
Admittedly, both players are roughly the same age and both are excellent defensively at second base, with Chisholm ranking in the 88th percentile at that position in 2025 and Hoerner winning his second career Gold Glove last year.
Offensively, Hoerner leads Chisholm with a batting average of .297 last season versus .242 for Chisholm, but the latter had a season of 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases versus seven home runs and 29 stolen bases for Hoerner.
The Yankees' obsession with a right-handed hitter could also lead them to Bichette, which, as with Hoerner, would improve the New York lineup's ability to put the ball in play.
