Nick Suzuki is having another great season in Montreal. The Habs captain, who will be representing Canada at the next Olympics, already has 46 points on his tally after 42 games.
He has a real chance of reaching the 90-point plateau for the first time in his career.
That said, it's Suzuki's defensive game that's getting the most attention this year. The captain has really improved in this area again this year… and that's why his name is often mentioned in discussions for the Selke Trophy.
And according to an ESPN poll, based on responses from people who will be voting for individual honors at the end of the campaign, Suzuki is the (heavy) favorite for the Selke this season.
He received the most first-place votes, ahead of Anthony Cirelli and Anze Kopitar.

What's clear from the voters is that the race is wide open in the absence of Aleksander Barkov. While this means that many names are being considered, Suzuki's is the one that comes up most often.
Things have time to change, but at mid-season, the Habs captain is well on his way to winning this trophy.
What's also interesting is that, in the same survey, voters were asked about the Hart Trophy. Unsurprisingly, Nathan MacKinnon, Macklin Celebrini, and Connor McDavid topped the list… but Suzuki was also mentioned in that race.
It would take a real miracle for him to win the Hart, we agree. But what we do understand is that he could once again garner his share of MVP votes this season.
We'll see if the captain can hold on to his title as Selke favorite, but everything points to him being the clear favorite right now. And if he wins, he really, really won't have stolen it.
