Just yesterday, we realized just how much greater the chances of Kyle Tucker signing in the short term are than ever before.
The market sometimes has that effect on certain guys. Alex Bregman, who really wanted to sign long-term a year ago, had no choice but to accept a short contract from the Red Sox for the 2025 season, for example.
Of course, it's easy to wonder what this means for the Blue Jays, one of the only teams that could really aspire to offer him a long, ten-year contract at over $300 million.
I'm tempted to say that the Mets, if they were to lose the Cody Bellinger derby (who is the favorite of both New York clubs), might jump at the chance to sign Tucker long-term, but hey.
If he were to sign in the short term, Tucker would have several clubs after him and could sign for a hefty price.
And while the Blue Jays are still the favorites, Mark Feinsand (MLB.com) reminds us that other clubs have been linked to the outfielder. In addition to the New York teams, there are also the Dodgers, Giants, and Diamondbacks.
“Two industry sources still tabbed the Blue Jays as Tucker's likely destination, even after Toronto signed infielder Kazuma Okamoto to a 4-year, $60M deal last week. “https://t.co/D7ZaufVnI1

The Cubs are ridiculous if they don't try their hand at the fundamentals on a short contract… but hey.
The Dodgers won't give Tucker a long contract, but I'd be very curious to see what offer they'd have for him if it were to be short term. They're clearly a team to watch and the guy might be tempted to sign there.
The Giants have been linked to the outfielder, according to Feinsand, but I'd be the most surprised of the lot if he signed there.
I'm not going to rule out the Diamondbacks, who have a knack for surprising. But I think Alex Bregman (an outfielder who grew up in the Western U.S.) is more likely to sign there than Tucker, a Florida outfielder who's going to be… expensive.
