Negotiations between Kiefer Sherwood and the Canucks are not going very well.
According to Elliotte Friedman, the two sides met this week and Vancouver put an offer on the table, but there's still a big gap between the two parties, without specifying the amount and duration of the contract.
Elliotte Friedman: The Canucks did make a new offer to Kiefer Sherwood this week, I still think there's a sizable gap here, I don't have a timeline for when anything's gonna occur in terms of a trade or anything; but…both sides did talk this week – Saturday Headlines (1/3)

Sherwood is currently spending the final year of a two-year contract worth an average of $1.5 million per year when he joined the Canucks as a free agent in 2024.
Since arriving in British Columbia, the forward has really found his stride. Last year, he had his best campaign ever with 40 points, including 19 goals, in 78 games, and could beat that mark this season with 17 goals and 4 assists in 41 games.
He should receive a substantial salary increase with his next contract.
Although Friedman doesn't give a timetable, a trade is looking more and more like a possibility in Sherwood's case.
Especially since the Canucks, who currently occupy second-to-last place in the West, have already begun selling players, and the housecleaning could well continue.
However, Sherwood's name has already been circulating in the Canadiens' trade rumors, and he could be an interesting option for the team.
Zachary Bolduc's name had also been mentioned as a potential trade chip.
Sherwood scores a lot of goals, can play tough hockey, and his contract, which expires this season, makes him an ideal rental player.
The Ohio native can play on a second line, but ideally he'd fit right in on a third line, where he could add depth and toughness for the Habs, especially in the playoffs.
However, will Kent Hughes be interested in giving away picks or prospects for a rental player without a long-term guarantee?
That's a good question, because so far, the CEO has never been in this kind of position as a potential buyer at the trade deadline.
Not to mention that, with the return of the injured, he could start to see some congestion on the team's back two.
In short, we'll have to keep an eye on Sherwood's situation in the coming weeks.
