The Canadiens won last night's game in Carolina. Yeah!

There were seven other NHL games, though.

Let's see what happened:

1: Auston Matthews is back?

Auston Matthews isn't having the season of the century.

The Leafs captain had trouble getting his campaign off on the right foot… but it seems to be picking up lately. The proof?

Last night, against the Jets, the American scored his first hat trick of the campaign in a win for his club. He helped the Leafs to a 6-5 win over the Jets:

Matthews also picked up an assist in his team's win.

He finished his night's work with a fine four points… and that's got to feel good in a way.

Now he needs to keep up the momentum to finish his season on a high note. He's got the talent to do it, we agree…

2: The old guys are still good in Pittsburgh

The Penguins aren't young. Their leaders have many years of NHL experience, and it showed last night.

Sidney Crosby was in fine form, starting the game by scoring twice in the first six minutes.

The Kid never gets old:

Overtime was needed to determine a winner between the Penguins and Red Wings… and it was another “oldie” who stood up.

Kristopher Letang scored with a cannonball: Penguins win 4-3.

Things are going relatively well for the Penguins, who have just notched up their third win in as many games.

Will they be able to make a playoff push with the players in place? Hmm…

3: Dylan Guenther has fun against the Islanders

Dylan Guenther is probably one of the most underrated players in the NHL. His talent spills out of both ears, and he showed it last night against the Islanders.

It's simple: the Mammoth crushed Patrick Roy's team, and Guenther took advantage with three goals.

It was his first career NHL hat trick.

Well done:

The win will be good news for André Tourigny's men… who have just five wins in their last ten games.

They have the talent to be better than that, though. But the club, since the start of the season, has been really inconsistent… and that makes a difference in the end.

4: Another Sens win

We're transported to the third period. The score is tied 2-2… and that's when David Perron steps up to give his team the lead:

The Capitals tied the game in the third period… but the Sens hadn't said their last word.

Tim Stutzle picked up a point in his eleventh straight game by assisting on Fabian Zetterlund's goal, and the Sens never looked back:

Senators win 4-3.

It's a good thing the Habs won last night, because the Sens are climbing the standings right now…

5: Matty Beniers redeems himself

Before last night's game, Matty Beniers had scored a grand total of… four goals so far this season.

But the kid redeemed himself last night.

The young Kraken player scored twice in the first period: he now has six goals in 25-26. But that's not spectacular either…

The Kraken took a 3-0 lead in the first period and that was enough to beat the Predators 4-1.

It helps when a club starts a game the right way. And this is proof of that.
