Yesterday, the United States took on Switzerland on the second day of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.

The Americans won the defensive duel 2-1, but what really caught the eye was Lane's younger brother Cole Hutson, who had to leave the game on a stretcher.

The young defenseman collapsed on the ice after receiving a shot to the side of the head midway through the second period.

At the time, the scene was particularly disturbing.

Today, we learn in an article by Nicolas Cloutier published on TVA Sports that the moment was really intense for Hutson's friend Cole Eiserman.

The two players have known each other since the age of seven, and when Hutson fell to the ice, Eiserman immediately jumped onto the ice to check on his teammate.

At that point, hockey didn't matter and all that occupied his mind was that his friend was okay.

“I breathed again when I felt him squeeze my hand. I just wanted him to know that I'd be there for him, no matter what.”

Let's just say that while the American players all held their breath after the incident, it must have been a particularly worrying situation for Eiserman, who prayed for his friend's speedy return.

Fortunately, Hutson avoided the worst and was quickly discharged from hospital. He even joined his teammates for lunch after the game.

The young defender did not practice with his club today and will be re-evaluated daily, but could return to action before the end of the World Championship.

Hutson had a great first game with the Americans, notching two assists and a +5 rating in 24:20 minutes of play, and his return could help his club in the final stretch of the tournament.
