There was a time when no Montreal Canadiens player came close to producing a point per game.

The Habs relied on the prowess of Carey Price, but for the rest, offensively, the Habs didn't have a single player who really stood out and was among the NHL's elite in terms of points.

Often, the Canadiens were the team with the lowest first point total in terms of production.

Well, those days are long gone, and today's Habs boast a number of excellent offensive players capable of producing points in abundance and thus competing with the NHL's top scorers.

When we look at the NHL's top scorers, obviously Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon stand out from the pack, but after that, it's very close, and we end up finding Nick Suzuki in 15th place.

That's a more than respectable position, and it shows just how good a scorer the Habs are.

It gets even more interesting when you compare the top scorers on each NHL team, with Nick Suzuki finding himself in 9th place.

Indeed, if we simply take each team's top scorer, and not the others, Nick Suzuki climbs a few more ranks and into the top half of the table.

When you look at this, it's really refreshing to see that the Canadiens are in the top tier of teams, and not towards the bottom as was often the case in the past.

Suzuki is still ahead of the likes of Jack Eichel, Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, William Nylander, Artemi Panarin, and Sidney Crosby, which is very impressive.

The Habs are perfectly in tune with the modern NHL, with a top scorer worthy of the league's best teams.

It's crucial for a team to have such a star, and the Habs already have several, with Cole Caufield (36 points) and Lane Hutson (35 points).

Add to that Ivan Demidov, who is likely to develop into a superstar who will clearly produce more than a point a game, and the Habs really do have a winning recipe.
