Now that the presents are open and Christmas has come and gone, it's time for another holiday tradition: the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.

It's an opportunity to observe the development of many of the Canadiens' prospects.

Among them, Aatos Koivu was in action this afternoon as Finland took on Denmark in the second game of the day.

The young forward scored on a second-period rebound to make it 4-1 in favor of his team in a game the Finns won 6-2.

Koivu managed to unleash a powerful shot despite being surrounded by three opposing players on a beautiful pass from Aron Kiviharju.

Although he played a good game overall, the Habs prospect took an unnecessary penalty in the third period when he was chased down for a stick hit in the offensive zone.

The penalty led to the Danes' second goal, but it was of no consequence as the score remained 6-2 for the remainder of the game.

The son of the former Habs captain continues to develop this year in Finland with TPS Turku, in a more defensive role, as he is likely to do when he comes to North America.

In 30 games this season, Koivu has two goals and five assists and a differential of -4 in Finland's top league.

We know the young forward won't score as many points as his father, but he could develop into a good defensive forward with a good shot and skating touch who could help out on a third or fourth line.

And the World Championship will be a good opportunity to take a closer look at this prospect with other players his age.

Overtime

– Good words for Noah Dobson.

– LJ Mooney in action.

– The Americans open the scoring.

– Ouch!
