Ivan Demidov is a special talent, as you know.
But without saying that Alexander Zharovsky is better than him, it's worth pointing out that the Canadiens' second-round pick in 2025 has better stats than Demidov at the same age.
In 2025-2026, which is Zharovsky's rookie season, the youngster has quite a few more points in the KHL than Demidov had at the same point in the season in 2024-2025, when he was a rookie in the Russian league.
Obviously, playing time changes things (Zharovsky plays in a program where he's obviously needed), but still: after 30 games each at the start of their rookie seasons in the KHL, Zharovsky has better numbers.
We're talking about four more goals and five more points for the man currently in Russia than for Demidov.

Add to all this the fact that, on Christmas Day, Zharovsky was in action. His club (Salavat Yulaev) was taking on Amur this morning, Quebec time.
And clearly, Zharovsky did well. In a 4-2 win, he scored his 11th of the season.

On top of that, Zharovsky was able to add two assists to his tally. He now has 11 goals and 28 points in 31 games.
It should be noted that Kirill Kaprizov had 27 points in 53 games in 2015-2016, his first full season in the Russian league. Zharovsky has already surpassed that… in December.
Two apples now. He just tied Kaprizov for KHL points as an 18-year-old, and he still has 29 games left. pic.twitter.com/ql1H6gV8VM

Last year, Ivan Demidov scored 19 goals and 49 points in 65 games. Zharovsky is on a more interesting pace… not least because of his playing time.
Could the Canadiens, once again this year, have the Rookie of the Year in both the KHL and the NHL?
