Phillip Danault has gone from an old club that didn't score and didn't want him anymore to a young, dynamic team that often finds the back of the net.

He's gone from a defensive system to one that could one day help him score his very first goal of the season. He has none in 30 games in L.A… and he didn't score yesterday.

But most importantly, he's back home. Danault didn't want to leave Montreal in 2021, but negotiations with Marc Bergevin forced the Québécois into exile.

After enjoying a few years in the warmth of L.A. and avoiding the Canadiens' rebuilding process, #24 is now back in his preferred uniform.

As he said yesterday, a lot of people have changed over the years. But even so, he recognizes a few faces.

Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Jake Evans (who is injured), Josh Anderson, and Brendan Gallagher are the only players left from the 2021 edition. And of the lot, only Gallagher played any games with the Canadiens prior to the 2015-2016 season, Danault's first with the organization.

One of those faces greeted Danault on Monday night in Boston. As Arpon Basu reports, captain Nick Suzuki invited his new teammate to dinner on the eve of his first game in Boston.

Danault was in Brossard on Monday morning, but then headed for Boston. So he was in the States Monday night for dinner.

Not surprising, given that the two played together. But even though they weren't former teammates, Suzuki played his part as captain on this one.

Back in the day, the dynamic was different. After all, Suzuki was the young man and Danault was the center at the beginning of his best career years.

But now, since then, Suzuki has taken charge of the club and has earned himself the captain's “C” in the process.
