Three days ago, Marc Bergevin left his position with the Los Angeles Kings to join the Buffalo Sabres as Associate GM.

Personally, I would have thought he would have left for a GM position.

But then, I guess he really wanted to leave Los Angeles, especially since Ken Holland was named GM.

Bergevin still did a good job in Montreal, even if he clearly wasn't unanimously supported by the fans.

At the Sabres, mainly from Jarmo Kekalainen's point of view, his talent was recognized. What stands out about the Sabres' new GM is his talent for evaluating players, as can be seen in this TVA Sports article.

Coming from your boss, it's always nice to receive recognition in your line of work, no matter at what level.

Decidedly, Bergevin isn't bad and will only help the Sabres, who are starting to lose touch with what the NHL playoffs are all about.

What's more, the Finnish GM also acknowledges Bergevin's good work with the transactions he made as GM of the Montreal Canadiens.

“He's a hard worker who evaluates players properly. His transaction record in Montreal was among the best in the National League.” – Jarmo Kekalainen

According to Kekalainen, it's a perfect match for the Sabres.

As is well known, the Sabres haven't made the playoffs since 2011… With the recent changes in management, this can only help and give the players confidence.

Still, Buffalo has a very good core. Tage Thompson is an excellent big-bodied center (even if he's often injured and lacks consistency in his play). There's also a very fine defensive brigade and some interesting young players within the organization.

Let's see if the Kekalainen-Bergevin duo can work miracles in Buffalo.
