At the last draft, the Canadiens selected Bryce Pickford in the third round. We're talking about a defenseman who was 19 years old (an overage), but who had just reached another offensive level the previous season.
He had just scored 13 goals and 25 points in 18 playoff games.
And this year, Pickford's momentum has continued: he has 25 goals and 44 points in 31 games, including 12 goals in his last six games. Remember: he's a defenseman.
So the Habs decided to give him a Christmas present in recognition of his hard work: according to Eric Engels, Pickford signed his entry-level contract with the Canadiens.
That's quite a reward.
Sounds like an entry-level contract is done for Bryce Pickford with the Canadiens. The RHD, taken 81st in the 2025 Draft, has been torching the WHL with Medicine Hat this season. He has 25G, 44P in 31 games after posting 13G and 25P in 18 playoff games last spring.

Pickford, who turns 20 in April, is a right-handed defenseman, which is a rare commodity within the organization. There's Noah Dobson, Alexandre Carrier, and David Reinbacher, but behind them, it's pretty thin.
For that reason, he's a pretty important prospect for the club.
