After a strong start to the season, the Penguins have been on a tear for a while now. The club won yesterday, but before that, it was in the midst of an eight-game winless streak.

Above all, the club was losing by blowing big leads… which doesn't go down well when you've just traded your #1 goalie.

Unsurprisingly, rumors surrounding Sidney Crosby continue to swirl. But tonight, Dany Dubé took advantage of his appearance on 98.5 FM to throw cold water on those rumors.

The analyst acknowledges that the Penguins are likely to trade some big players, and raises the possibility of Evgeni Malkin and Kristopher Letang leaving, for example. That said, he's pretty adamant about one thing:

Sidney Crosby isn't going anywhere. – Dany Dubé

Crosby, in Dubé's eyes, is simply too important a guy for the Penguins to consider trading. He's possibly the greatest player in the organization's history, and the analyst compares the idea of trading him to trading a guy like Jean Béliveau back in the day.

Let's not forget, the NHL has changed a lot since then. But we still understand his point.

And in Dubé's eyes, the arrival of new owners is a factor that shouldn't be underestimated. By trading Crosby, the Pens would find themselves in a situation where it would be much harder to attract people to the stands… and that's not what new owners want.

Ultimately, I have the impression that Crosby will have the final say in the matter. If he wants to be traded, I have a feeling the club won't object… but it's true that, under the circumstances, the Penguins probably want to keep him for the rest of his career.

Especially as he still has some very good hockey in him, we agree.
