Last Friday, Phillip Danault was traded to the Canadiens. The québécois had been the subject of rumors for several days, and finally ended up in Montreal in exchange for a second-round pick.
Danault should be in the Habs line-up tomorrow against the Bruins.
In the days leading up to the deal, Marco D'Amico reported that Danault had asked for a trade. At the time, Allan Walsh (Danault's agent) went on the offensive and criticized D'Amico's reporting.
And today, on his Agent Provocateur podcast, Walsh was adamant that Danault never asked the Kings to trade him.
What happened, according to his agent, was that Danault and the Kings mutually agreed on a scenario in which he would change addresses.
Last week, when Walsh criticized D'Amico, he didn't really deny what the journalist was reporting. Today, however, he made it clear that his client had never demanded or requested a transaction.
This is the nuance that the agent wishes to bring, wanting to take the heat off his client (who, it should be noted, did not apologize in any way to D'Amico).
According to Walsh, both Danault and the Kings agreed that it might be best for both parties to consider a deal. Ken Holland told Danault's clan that if he could find a deal that made sense for the Kings, he would consider it.
And apparently, that's what he found in Montreal.
The agent also noted that even though Danault would have been willing to go anywhere but Montreal, the Québécois is still happy to be back in town. He has a lot of friends in the area, and he loved his first stint in a Habs uniform.
Walsh sees a world where Danault could really benefit from a revival in Montreal. Let's see if it happens now.
