Yesterday was a big day for hockey in the National Hockey League, with 13 games scheduled throughout the day.

The 26 teams in action put on a great show, and gave us some very interesting highlights.

Without further ado, here's a rundown of those highlights.

1. Nicolas Deslauriers makes short work of Brennan Othmann

Right now in the NHL, if there's one player who's considered the league's best brawler, it's Nicolas Deslauriers.

In fact, the Québécois is considered the toughest and most dangerous player in the league, yet he almost never loses a fight.

And last night, 22-year-old New York Rangers player Brennan Othmann got a taste of that, as he threw down the gloves against Deslauriers.

After being pushed solidly against the boards by Deslauriers, Othmann turned and tried to get his revenge, only it didn't go as planned.

Deslauriers served up ONE solid punch to Othmann, and it was pretty much over already.

This proves once again why Deslauriers is the most respected and dangerous heavyweight in the entire NHL.

The Rangers won this game 5-4 in a shootout.

2. Alex Lyon makes a miraculous save on an own goal

We've been used to seeing crazy situations from the Buffalo Sabres for several seasons now, and last night we were treated to one of them.

Sabres goalkeeper Alex Lyon made a last-ditch save on a shot from his own defender.

Yes, you read that right, Lyon made a save that could be a candidate for save of the year at the expense of Bowen Byram.

A rather special scene that could have given us one of the most bizarre goals of the year.

Fortunately, Lyon made the save, ultimately allowing the Sabres to win a fifth straight game, beating the New York Islanders 3-2 in a shootout.

3. Rasmus Dahlin from start to finish

In the same game, Rasmus Dahlin scored a goal of his own, when he made a one-man rush on a pass from his goalie, Alex Lyon.

A magnificent goal that we'll be seeing a lot more of.

4. A violent collision between Sennecke and Merzlikins

Another unusual scene yesterday, as a violent collision occurred in the Anaheim Ducks' 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Beckett Sennecke collided violently with Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins.

Sennecke received a penalty on the sequence.

Note that in defeat, Mason Marchment, traded just after Phillip Danault, scored his first Blue Jackets goal.

5. Wild and Canucks unbeaten since Quinn Hughes trade

Since the huge Quinn Hughes trade to the Minnesota Wild took place, the two teams involved have yet to lose a game.

Both the Minnesota Wild and the Vancouver Canucks have a 4-0 record.

Both teams benefit from the trade, even in terms of production, as Hughes has three points in four games with the Wild, as does Liam Ohgren with the Canucks.

Ohgren also scored a superb shootout winner last night.

In short, both teams are benefiting greatly from this trade so far.
