The original plan with Samuel Montembeault was relatively straightforward.

The goaltender, who was sent to the AHL this week for conditioning purposes, was supposed to join the Canadiens today in Pittsburgh after playing his two games with the Rocket.

But… the plan has changed.

In the end, Monty won't be joining the club in Pennsylvania. The Québécois returned to Montreal last night with the Rocket and will stay in town to practice in Brossard tomorrow and Tuesday.

He will be under the supervision of Marco Marciano, who is the goaltending coach in Laval.

If the plan has changed, it's (most) likely because of the performances of Jacob Fowler and Jakub Dobes. They don't deserve to be sent back to Laval (especially Fowler) and that complicates things right now for the Canadiens in a way.

For Monty, it's what happens next that will be interesting to watch. The plan (according to Anthony Martineau) is for him to travel with the team after Christmas for the famous trip to Florida, but…

But even if this is the most plausible scenario, there's still a world in which Monty will play a few games in Laval if he hasn't been officially activated after the holidays. The door is open for him to play in Laval, and even if it's pretty unlikely, that scenario is still legal.

Anyway, I'm really wondering.

In all this, I really wonder how the Québécois is feeling right now. This is a tougher time for him on the ice, and perhaps the most important time of his career too.

The only thing he can do is respond in the right way. He's got to get back into the rhythm he was in last season, because there are some guys who really seem ready to steal his job in Montreal right now.

It's up to him.
