In Thursday's game with the Laval Rocket, Samuel Montembeault scored four goals. He wasn't bad, but he didn't make the difference either.

As part of a rehab start, his goal wasn't to stop everything. But even so, the fact that he gave away four goals was the talk of the town.

Montreal is still a market like that.

This afternoon, the Canadiens' goalie played his second (and possibly last) game with the Rocket. We wondered if he'd do better than Thursday.

The answer? Yes, he did better.

Against these same Monsters, he gave up just one goal today. The Rocket lost 2-0, but their second goal was scored in an empty net.

The Québécois stopped 27 of 28 shots.

If the goal was to restore his confidence, today's game is an excellent step in the right direction. After all, he looked solid when he needed to be.

So what's next? Theoretically, if the plan still holds, the goalie should join the Canadiens in Pittsburgh tomorrow. The club will therefore be back to three goalies.

That said, it's possible that he won't be used right away. If the Habs don't need him, perhaps he could return to Laval after the holiday break to play a bit more.

Whatever lies ahead, the fact that he's playing well is great news.
